Brass triangles that supported stacks of iron cannon-balls on sailing ships were called monkeys and that in cold weather the metal contracted, causing the balls to fall off.

HMS Victory was launched in 1765 at Chatham Dockyard and was commissioned in 1778. She continued in active service for the next 34 years which included her most famous moment-the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

Collision Regs 9. Narrow channels
Small vessels or sailing vessels must not impede (larger) vessels which can navigate only within a narrow channel.
