Ian's aim is to provide a personal and tailored service in the sphere of Yachting, Navigation, and Personal Development. His association with the RYA's World Class Training Schemes goes back more than thirty years. He is a firm believer in the benefits of RYA training, both from the safety aspect, enjoyment and importantly the participants sense of achievement.
Ian has been involved with sailing and the great outdoors since childhood on the Yorkshire coast. Early sea and mountain experiences led to his qualifying as an RYA Instructor and British Mountain Leader in the 1970's. Following teacher training in Outdoor Pursuits and Geography he instructed sailing, mountaineering, and team building. Leadership training and Team building remain areas of strong interest.
Ian later served as a Coastguard officer in Orkney and Oban. For more than twelve years he has been training sailors and motor cruising yachtsmen on the South Coast, afloat and in the classroom. For many years Ian worked at Southern Sailing School during the period it was under John Goode's ownership and excellent directorship.
In addition to being an efficient team builder Ian particularly enjoys helping other people learn and develop.
He is a good organizer and communicator who is able to get the job done in a quiet and efficient manner. Whilst never far from the sea or mountains periods in business have enabled Ian to acquire a sound business acumen.
Ian has a keen interest in weather and meteorology strengthened by 10 years as a Met Office Observer.
